I was surprised at the creativity, rich characterizations and deep worldbuilding that went into this novel. It was so hard to read, but I would not let myself stop, until the final ant had run it course.David W. I feel that early on the book dares you to give up, and if that is not the reading experience you're looking for you won't persist. Oddly enough there are a few places closer to the end where some loose ends are very neatly tied up, which was jarring. It is an attempt to do more than invert or subvert a heroic fantasy novel; it wants to annihilate it, grind it into sand and make a fragile mirror of it. I think you have to be in a certain mood to want to read that! The Erudite Ogrehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15073042316337498298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4301642537197902664.post-59066150592359111082011-03-14T16:42:43.674-04:002011-03-14T16:42:43.674-04:00I tried, and didn't cotton to this book when i...I tried, and didn't cotton to this book when it first came out in 2008. I didn't like its structure at all.

Just a failure of my taste, I guess.
